seems to be easy swap, all you need 1st gear and countershaft from toyota r151 transmission (i dont know about U.S. models, mine is from LJ-70 cruiser)
just pulled both trannys to pieces, ill info later how this swap works.

toyota r151 gear ratio:

4.31 2.33 1.44 1.00 0.83 4.22

ax-15

3.83 2.33 1.44 1.00 0.79 4.22

toy 32 teeth on left , Jeep 31 teeth on right

Countershafts, lower is toy (11 vs. 12 teeth in first gear)

only difference is 5th gear locking, but same lenght in both axles. so that isn´t problem.

If we can get a detailed parts listing and source,(which is up already), I see a chance of making a "kit" for these transmissions:smokin:

Any update word on your ability to ship? Prices? If you have the abundant access to parts, there is a demand here in the states. Im one of them. Come up with a list of parts and a package price. Go get your yellow star and see what happens:smokin:

anyone find any more info on this upgrade or any other upgrades for the ax-15? and is it worth using a used toy. tranny for the parts?
I run a 4.0 with the ax15 has anyone swapped in a nv4500? hows the nv4500 compare to the ax15? and are you happy with the nv4500
AND THE AX15 IS KILLING MY CLUTCH SHOULD I GET RID OF IT ALL TOGEATHER? LIKE I DID WITH THE DANA35 I THINK IT WAS MADE OUT OF PLASTIC

Thanks for bringing this old post up, but I think a NV3550 swap would be easier and cheaper, especially if things break...
