ARB snorkel install on a 98 TJ

as anyone installed an ARB snorkel on a 97/98 TJ before with Air Conditioning? I specifiy 97/98 because after that year, jeep modified where the compressor is and changed the air box. My problem is, with where my airbox is, and having installed the adapter plate that came with my snorkel for the intake tube to my stock air box, the plate butts right up against the AC hard lines. Making it impossible for me to get the air tube to mount to my air box.

Im trying to find out how anyone has gotten around this or looking for suggestions on what to do. I have heard of people doing away with the air box completely, and running an air filter in the hose itself and go straight from the snorkel to the throttle body. Suggestions, tips, tricks, anything? THANKS!

Ditch the snorkle and buy something useful :flipoff2:

Its useful for my purpose..... Cold air induction, bring in cleaner air to begin with, and prevents water from being injested when doing water crossings and when playing in deep mud/water.

So.. back to topic, anyone have any suggestions? I am considering having the ac return line cut and rerouted to allow room for the new intake pipe going into my snorkel....

Does anyone on this board provide any useful content instead of constant flaming and useless commentary??

Sure we do when the question is regarding a functional piece of equipment or modification that serves a real purpose.

Do you honestly think that having the air intake 18 higher than stock is gonna make two shits of difference for cleaner/cooler air when you're following a group to the trailhead

When was the last time you were seriously denied a water crossing because you didn't have a snorkle? I'd bet............NEVER :shaking:

A snorkle has to be the wheelers equivilant to putting a wing on a front wheel drive ricer. You Jeep guys and your bolt ons make me giggle :flipoff2:

Once you play in enough mud or swamp your jeep in deep enough water, you'll learn to stay out of that shit. :shaking:

And to answer your question......Go here and dont come back....BoltOnsRUs :flipoff2:

HEY... this one time at band camp... I mean... wait, never mind.Seriously man if I were you I would not go cutting a hole in the side of a perfectly good fender. I have splashed some mud into my ghetto fab intake before and all it did was bog the ole' 258 down a bit... gave her a few good revs to clear her throat and she was good too go. But if you must get your intake above factory height ill let you in on a little secret... most every one on the PBB has one...

LIFT AND BIGGER TIRES... way better invetment :flipoff2:

I am considering one of two things to fix my problem. Either try to cut the new intake pipe on my air box to try and allow enough room to get the intake hose from the snorkel to the box to fit, or cut the return hose for the AC and have it re-routed out of the way of my airbox. I’m shooting for the first solution, because the second one will require me to discharge the AC, have someone who can weld aluminum move the pipe, and then recharge the damn thing.

And to answer a few of you, I find it amazing that people whom I have never met feel they can judge my level of wheeling experience and my rigs capability just by looking at someone's post count.

Couple of things, 1 - Im getting the snorkel because yes, I was not able to go through a few water crossings because the water was over my hood, 2- I sunk in a mud pit the weekend after the previous mentioned incident where the stock air box pulled a ton of mud/water into it, 3 - I have seen the difference first hand with how well a snorkel works to pull clean fresh air, especially when driving in a line of 10 jeeps and the road is just pure dust. The stock intake's air filter looked like it was 10 years old, the one's using a snorkel where nice and clean. This topic was not started to ask the feasibility of a snorkel, it was a specific question related to the install. If you don’t have the answer, that doesn’t mean flame away off a tangent, that’s called OFF TOPIC-

As for my lift, I just went up to a 4in OME suspension, with adjustable uppers/lowers, SYE/Driveshaft, new skids, board out throttle body, and am getting ready to drop a new rear in my jeep so I can move up to 35's. The snorkel is one more item to add to my list of mods going in this week alone.

Anyway, I guess what it comes down to, here's the people who decided that my question wasn’t worth their time, or just couldn't provide any useful information other then a few flames, here's to you :flipoff2:

I may be a newbie to this board, but I'm not to the 4wheeling community. And as far as going else where, aka JU, I think Ill stick around for awhile here....

I can't wait for the pictures of your engine driven fan deeply embedded into your radiator. Not to mention your nice electronic ignition failing since you didn't seal it up either. :barf:
I removed the clutch driven fan already and installed an electric fan out of a ford tarus. I also have hit everything under the hood with dielectric grease to help prevent shorts, I have run a bead of silicone around my distributor cap (its a 98 so it still has a distributor) and I have run all my breather tubes up above my hood line.

Snorkels are :rainbow: plain and simple. Instead of trying to make your jeep into a submarine why not do something useful to it? or sell it and buy a boat :flipoff2:
real submarines don't need snorkels, they just have them for show...which brings us to this post :flipoff2:

LOL - Sorry Tim, missed your post in all the junk that's wound up in here. I orginally ordered the SS1055, when it arrived I saw it said for 9/99+ TJ's. So a buddy of mine bought it off me and he ordered me the SS1050. So the one that Im working with now is the SS1050. Thanks...
