I am designing a stock modified class cj8 rock crawler for we rock next year.

I am trying to decide on a transmission for the system right now so I can figure out what gearing I need.

I currently have a SM465 and a th350 sitting in the garage.

My issue is my right ankle is fused so brake/gas pedaling is difficult but I can do it but I usually have some roll back.

I want to run the 465 but I am thinking that the 350 or another tranny would be better for me.

What is your guy's thoughts?

Auto, let the torque converter do the slipping....not your clutch

More info would be nice ,but I would go for the auto. I had a t18 and went to a 727. Was the best thing I did. It's not as harsh on drivetrain components.

I am right now in the middle of the design phase. So it's really open.

Currently this is my thoughts

CJ8 scrambler

BFG Krawlers or Maxxus 35"
Front axles Dana 44
One link
Rear Ford 9"

I would do 60's but not enough clearance on 35's

Drive train
Motor I have 4.2 Jeep and a chevy 350 that I can use.
Tranny ???
Transfer case 300 with 4 to 1
Gears Need to figure out which motor and tranny

All the guys I know that use manual trans have a Hand Throttle. Def makes it easier instead of 3 footing it on steep inclines. IMO I would probably run the Auto. Build up the TH350 with a Reverse Full Manual Valve body if it just going to used for Comps.

Sell the SM465 and the TH350 and buy a reverse manual C4 with compression braking. The C4 has a case length just barely longer than the SM465 - keeps your drive train angles much better.

Just another option.:D
