Is anyone else following the Spidertrax Rock Bug build??? I am just blown away each time they update that thing. The mid plate is nuts and the new wheel hubs are making me ill! I know a bunch of guys/shops are bringing new chassis/suspension designs to KOH, but the parts that Spidertrax is making is on a whole new level.

It's going to be totally sweet, but I would preferred a build thread. I find it hard to read and follow it for some reason.

Even sweeter blasting through the desert!

Lots of quality fab going into the Rock Bug though. Sweet custom one off stuff going into it :smokin:

I just noticed the Rock Bug blog on the Spidertrax ad banner...
very cool.

Billet Aluminum Oil pan

Oh yeah the mid plate is pretty cool, too.

I think it is interesting they are not using the Spider Trax unit bearings.... Every thing I have purchased from Spider Trax is top notch and there customer service is as good as it gets:D

What's the final forecasted weight? ~2000lbs? With all the bounty obstacles out there, they can make the $ up in 2-3 trips :flipoff2:

for sure one of the baddest buggies out there. What i like is the scat4 engine! Motor tranny and tcase wiegh around 420lbs i think he told me. They are saving weight in every direction. Thats one of the reasons he went with the stak 300 instead of the atlas. Size and weight. I even had to weight my 6000 lbs warn with rope and then tracy weighed his 9000 warn comp and the 6000 was like 5 lbs lighter so he went with that. But whats cool is they arent sacraficing strength for lbs. Everything is heat treated that they can.

A month ago, Tracy and I had a long talk about the service life of that engine. I was CONSIDERING a SCAT v4 back when we built the RockHer1 but decided that because it had such a short lifespan between service, it wasn't a good fit for our needs.

Tracy told me after realising the re-build costs and cycle, he was going to play it safer and keep it down closer to 300. Things may have changed, but I expect he want's to have a rig he can run hard for a long time without constant engine pulls. He'd be smart to play it safe as the power-weight ratio's going to be kickass regardless.

That would be my only concern with a vehicle like this, would the lighter weight components result in shorter life span? I know it's all relative, but didn't scrapper and tiny require extensive yearly rebuilds and upkeep?
