Helping a buddy out on his ‘94 TBI truck. Lil history, its a ‘94 4x4 that he put a crate vortec long block in, along with a rebuilt/ bored throttle body and all new accesories. Truck ran freat for a year or so, now it is givin us problems. Truck will start and run fine for a short time, then the tbi begins to start overfueling to the point that the injectors are wide open. Things that have been changed so far are TPS, CTS, swapped distributors, swapped ignition modules, and just yesterday tried a different ECM. At times, the injectors will start firing wide open with just ignition on but engine not turning over. My initial thoughts were bad injector driver in ECM, or bad pickup coil in the dizzy. I am stumped at this point. The wiring harness integrity looks great from just a visual standpoint of looking over it in the engine bay, but i am almost to the point of thinking we may need to start pulling loom and do a more thorough inspection. I think he is running the higher psi TPI fuel pump, but not sure. Could this pump, or bad fuel psi regulator or combo of the two cause the injectors to blow open when the engine isnt cranking or running? My knowledge of TBI’s tells me that the injectors only fire if they are seeing a crank signal from the dizzy... but i may be missing something. Any help would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks guys!
