So have you decided to go ahead and groove the rest of the tires on the rig? Or maybe take every other lug out of them for better traction like the guys of the past few years of TTC have been doing for the Claws?
Just wondering??
Thanks,
Matt from Grand Junction, CO

More info onthe reverser box please!! I have a couple of projects shaping up right now that could both use reversers- of course I am such a cheap azz that I am planning on building my own(in theory anyway)
The box I have is a Clark/Hurth unit, 1 input 2 outputs, the out put is a common shaft, the distance is 16" center to center of the input & output,
4 gears internally, no disinguage or anything,

No I'll be leaving them alone, I might one day put the other 2 uncut tires on the rear & use the cuts for spares, but all in all it works well the way it is, kind of hard to change things up when they already work so good,

I would say cuttung them really helps in the mud, other than that is is not much benifit, & since I live in a desert, cutting the rest probably would only hindder the tire around here,

Tell me about your rear engine set up, how are you reversing your rotation? Let me know please im new to rear engine buggy building, but im only 19 haha great work!
Just like Power Giant posted, the center section of the axle is flipped upside down, this puts the pinion on the opposide of the ring gear reversing the rotation & making it high pinion at the same time, the front required no additional work, the rear I did some baffle work for oil control to help the pinion bearings, so far everything works good,

I asked skipped link that same question when I competed against him at ITTC 2009. He said that he just turned the differentials over 180 degrees.
It was a lot of fun in Mountain Home, I have family up in your neck of the woods that I need to come up & vist, maybe next year if I make it up there I'll get ahold of you.

Sweet build dude the pics in the mag don't do it any justice at all.
Thanks for the props, TTC event coverage mag is out now, they got a couple good pics of the bottom :D

Just finished reading the article- good job. Looks like you had some bad luck in the hillclimb. For me, that was the "spookiest" event. Otherwise, it looked like a fairly tight competition for the top 4 competitors. Do you suppose the DVD is out yet? Drop by anytime you're in the neighborhood.

ya know skipped, i have a almost all tube frame late 70s shortbox on 44s that could use that motor :smokin:

i also have a very nice cab and front clip if you need some parts :D

i need to finish my shit and go wheeling with you :(

on a diffrent note, how do you like the efi 7.5 ? i want more power than the factory efi has, but i can get my hands on a good runner for cheap. it would mean less work for me, but i am a hp freeeeak

and did you change your header flanges for the efi heads ? or just redrill them ?

I'm sure for the right price I'd let it go :D

I've been watching your build for a while now, you do need to get it done, I'm game for wheeling anytime.

I'm pretty happy with the EFI 460, all I did was make sure I had the newer F3 heads (bigger intake valves) decent springs, & the comp cams computer freindly camshaft from summit,
The headers are the 2" primary headers that were on the 501, All I did to make them fit wasbuild up the bottom of the primary at the flange, (about 3 passes with the mig then port to match the head) then elongate the bolt holes about 1/8 inch, they seem to work ok,

I agree, the big horse power is fun, but when your miles from anywhere, dependability it pretty cool too, & thats one thing the 7.5L is, dependable.

Can you get the 5 spd ECU?

yep the whole rig. it runs and drives. but its an 89 so it will have the early heads. the reason i ask about the headers is i started on my 1 7/8 and waterjeted 3/8 flanges aready. i need to find a set of efi heads and make it fit both i guess. i should have done that before i had them cut, but ya know :shaking:

i may pass and stick to my original plan of a 454 tbi i have, but then i need to find another comp. as i sold it. then make my own multi port intake ( victor ) when i build the motor. but i didnt want to make the fuel pump and lines / etc twice.

and 1500 -1600hp - hmmmmmm how much ? :D

I'd be interested in seeing how that 454 TBI works, I went with the EFI 460 for simplicity, bisically weed out uneeded wiring & bolt it in, it runs good enough for me & parts can be had at any auto parts store in the country,
When people hear it run they don't believe it's virtually stock, but I know whats in it & there is no point in fibbing about it,

I'd probably let the blower motor go for $20K, (far less than I have in it) but you better be ready to spend that much in upgrading parts :D

i loved this build and in my new buggy i am using these same exact axles. if you dont mind me asking what rotors did you use when you made the pinion brakes? and did you ever run across any aftermarket brakes for these, wheel or pinion? any help would be great

Guess I need to subscribe to my own thread so I know when someone postes on it,

Hey nice rig. I just read all the way thru. 1) How did you clock the t-case, didnt see it anywhere. 2) What do you do for work? You kept talking like you were working shifts or something.
The T-case is clocked by just rotating it, all but one bolt lined up & hte only other mod was notching the adapter to clear the shif rail.

My occupation is a small vehicles fleet mechanic at a gold mine, & your right, I do work a 5 & 4 shift, never work more than 5 in a row, & never get less than 4 off,

I just used a generic rotor like you would find in speedway, if you need more info let me know & I'll get you a part number, These diffs were origonally in a hydrostatic unit, with a hydraulic motor driving the diffs, so there was no need for brakes, I do not know of any aftermarket stuff available, it is all pretty much custom,

Have you done anything to your diffs yet?

Just reread this thread. I love it
How's it running?
Thanks for the props.
All has been good with the rig, I've been on several local wheeling trips this year, at least one a month, plus 3 days a fordyce in august,
This weekend I'll be taking it to a small comp in Idaho then back home for a day or 2 of wheeling with some other bigger rigs,

Then a trip to armagosa for halloween, & then who knows from there, the rig just keeps going, I'm glad it has turned out so reliable,
