I know this is not very hardcore but I was curious to see if anyone has seen the Spartan Locker work? Im running a welded 60 in the back with a 4 link and a 44 in the front on leafs. I'm running 36in. irocs on my 100 inch wb CJ5 with a smal V8. Just trying to make it more fum untill I can save for a front 60. Thanks

Really...? Are you serious...? If you know it doesn't belong in hardcore then why do you do it? Put it where it belongs.

Since you don't know how to search I'll be one of the nice folks on here and answer your very, very simple question.

Yes! I have seen a spartan locker work! Ironically it was very similar to an Aussie locker, a lockrite, and a detroit ez locker.

my yj run's front d60 rear 14 bolt , I installed the spartin locker in the front on 42's and its never unlocked , then I changed over to 46's and its still never unlocked , might as well put a spool in and saved the cash but I guess I hope the locker unlocks instead of breaking an axle when its bound up one day

Liked the fact the spartin came with a new cross pin and took 5 min to install

worked really well in the front of my d60 of my old yota on 42's, I broke a couple 35 spline inners and the locker was fine, more than I can say for the last detroit I had when i broke a 35 spline shaft... think its a stronger unit than a lock rite or aussie

dont ya just love it when dick heads are more interested in sitting behind a
keyboard in there underwear talking shit instead of answering a question?

I just stuck them in front and rear of my cj. Hadn't a chance to run them yet but I liked how easy the springs were held while you set them up. Only been able to spin the wheels in air, locks with little effort but noticed they may be a bit louder than the lockrite and aussie

I picked mine up from ECGS

Most automatic lockers will make noises as you turn if the hubs are locked in and yes they unlock or turning would be a huge bitch. I noticed noise from mine picking up the jeep and driving it around the parking lot but the instructions say it will do that for a bit. Obviously it doesn't when the hubs are unlocked.

I have a HP D44 and a D60 from a 78 F250 under my 95 YJ. I put a Spartan locker in the 44 about a year ago. It worked great on the trail. I never noticed clicking noises coming from it, but then again I don't drive on the road much and I have lock-outs. I pulled the spartan out about 2 months ago though because it was eating up u-joints. I exploded 4 of them in a year, along with taking out 2 sets of CrMo axle shafts! My assumption for what caused this is when the locker does unlock and you are still under throttle, it immediately re-engages. This is quite a bit of shock load on components (and I'm still running the stock engine, tranny and t-case... 35" tires). After breaking stock u-joints, I upgraded to Alloy USA X-joints and these exploded as well. I've since gone to a True-trac up front. I've only had it out a couple times, but for the most part it is staying engaged. I have seen it unlock a couple times, but in my mind, this is just saving parts damage.

Wow, what a collection of strange "locker" observations.

Simple, it locks when you apply torque(step on the pedal), unlocks when you don't. If it never unlocks then something is wrong with the locker or the install.

If you are on the pedal going through turns it will stay locked, if you are on the pedal it will not lock and unlock by itself.

I agree. All the lunchbox lockers ratchet if not under load. You just may not hear it. If it stays locked when just coasting in a corner, then something is wrong. Broken pins, lost springs etc.

The fluid level or amount in your diff makes a significant difference in level of ratcheting that you can hear. I ran a thick stock cover in the rear for a while and switched to a Rockcrusher diff cover. The new diff cover has a higher fill plug which required significantly more fluid. This was the only variable that I changed and the ratchet sound is almost unnoticeable compared to before.
