We're looking for a little help from Pirate. We're currently finishing up truss designs for some bigger axles, namely Dana 80, AAM 11.5 and Sterlings. One thing we've encountered though is that some of the Dana 80s are different depending on what year/MFG they were from.

If you have a Dana 80, we could use your help in getting some dimensions. Real simple stuff, axle tube lengths and pumpkin length. Please measure from flat surface to flat surface as though the weld didn't exist. Also, sometimes the Dana 80 axle tubes downsize in diameter near the end of the tube. If so, please include how far the edge of that downsize is from either the casting or the brake flange. If you know it also please list what vehicle it came out of and whether it was single rear wheel or dually. Thanks.

Yes I know this isn't a Dana 80.

I'll get you a few more tomorrow. I have 2 Dodge D80s loose in the shop: 1 DRW & 1 SRW, sorry been recovering from a procedure the last 2 weeks.

I'm sure you guys probably know this but there are 3 different width's in the Dana 80 Dodge axle.

SRW which is 70 inches WMS

DRW which is 72 inches WMS

Cab and Chassis axle which is 67.5" WMS

I have a Cab and Chassis axle at home that I can get some measurements for you guys off of. It "should" be the narrowest OEM configuration you ever run across.

Thanks. I wasn't sure what the WMS numbers were but I was confident they were all different. The tube length measurements are hard to calculate from WMS though. Thanks for checking into that. I have a Dana 80 from a Ford van/bus or something and thats what I initially designed the truss on. Of course its probably the widest and offset to one side.

A little preview of the trusses we're about to release. The Dana 80 is on the bottom and you can kindof see the offset I was talking about. In the middle is the Sterling 10.25 and at the top is the AAM 11.5.

I have nine of them, IIRC, all Dodges of various years except one F-450 and one F-350. Unfortunately, I'm thousands of miles away from them right now. If you still need the measurements a month from now when I get home, I'll measure away.

Can you please work on one for a 9.25 AAM Front?

I may need the 11.5AAM!
If all you need is a truss, our Ford 78-79 truss will fit with some trimming. Basically the AAM 11.5 casting is a little wider and the tube is 3.5 instead of 3.125. If you need something soon, that would be the way to go. I will likely make a specific truss and ram mount for it down the road but its on the bottom of my very long to do list, so I wouldn't count on it anytime soon. Just ask the guys who've been waiting nearly a year for these Dana 80 and AAM 11.5 trusses, though now we're a little better equipped to get product designed faster.

Thanks Chris. That the hardest measurement to get right since calipers are never deep enough and tape measure doesn't really work well. I have to borrow a huge 24 inch caliper from my machine shop to get that usually.

That would be great. I'll be releasing this truss next week with the info gathered so far, but more info is always helpful. When you can please PM me the info.

Here's both my D80s that I have loose:

Feel free ask any more questions: I will get the other Ford BJ axle I have when I see it next as its out of town. It's a 2004 F450, so aside from the tube diameter being larger than an F350, it should have the same dimensions as all 1999-2004 F350 Dana 60.

Let me know if you need to ship one out for me to test fit. Be happy to do it on any of them!

^ That is so awesome. Thanks so much Kyle. I'll start getting those modeled up so I can make BJ versions of our Ram mounts and trusses. and thanks for the dana 80 info too. Such a wealth of axles...makes me jealous.
