John,
I know Yankee Toys has been trying to work with them. You might want to contact their Vice President, he possibly has more information, I know he has been in contact with them. The town of Ossipee, I understand, is hostile to motorized recreation but this is the live free or die state and the town doesn't own the land. It would be nice to have an OHRV park just a few minutes up the road. :grinpimp:

Yankee Toys
Actually, John is the man. Yankee Toys was working on getting a refund from the previous operator only. John is the only person that the owner of the mountain will work with, believe me. The only problem to date has been when others try to contact the owner. My club has cut every trail on the mountain and even we have been asked to lay low for a while. That was until this past week with the event of a positive town meeting that should favor Johns efforts. The bad news is that a lot of the early (SICK) trails may be unavailable in the future because they are on the front of the mountain and the owner will be using this section for other things. All I can say about the terrain is that if you like climbing while negotiating boulders, then this is the place for you. There is potential for milder trails and they will need to be cut to offer trails for all levels.

sorry that I have not been responding I am out straight...weeks have to few hours... yes the back and sides (s) will be where it is at for a few good resons as roy has pointed out but only one trail likely will be lost (the face)...I am glad to hear from a lot of new names and hopfully all will go as planed...I have a really good feeling this time,I think we have the right TEAM players!!! we will talk at you latter .... jon *WORP*

Mt. Whittier has great potentiential. Dana, the guy that tried to run it for the past few years did screw us over(Yankeet Toys) and we are working on getting our money back. .

John, as a club YT loves this mountian but Dana did us bad Voodo and still is(his check just bounced  ). We cannot support your efferts until we are paid back in full and it is proven the Dana has nothing to do with the mountain. I will also encourage others to do the same in our club and others. YT belongs to several larger organizations and our reps will let it be known our position on the matter.

Contact me if you want to talk about any of the YT issues with Mt. Whittier.

Yankee Toys President

I know that I will not use the park or recommend the park to anyone until Yankee Toys is reimbursed by Dana for their expenses from the 2003 Fall Gathering. I ask that other people, clubs, organizations will support Yankee Toys and not give patronage to this OHV Park until this is resolved.

Its too bad because Mt Whittier has some good potential with lots of granite faces to play on near the top. I'd also like to see an OHV park that could hold a competition other than Paragon. I think NEUROC would like this also. I'm not sure if Whittier could be set up for this though.

The biggest complaint that we had from our YT members was that there weren't enough stock/slightly modified type trails. You'll need to have trails to satisfy everyone if you want to get clubs up there. And finally, make Dana pay us back!!!

And kudos to Whitts End Campground at the base of the mountain. Fawkin best camp ground ever!!!!:D :D :D

Ha. From everything that has gone on with this place- the town, Dana, the owners of the mountain and the locals that sneak in- I have my doubts anything will ever happen with this place. Good luck.. You'll need it..

I totally echo what FoxFab says. Dana has done more damage to Mt Whittier that any of the town reps or locals, he is not to be trusted one bit. He needs to reimburse YT for that fiasco he caused last September at our Fall Gathering event. Until then, I will not set foot on the place, and I will encourage others to do the same.

This is a shame too, because it has a LOT of potential. Lots of space to park tow rigs/trailer, good restaurants in the local area, and Whitts End Campgound is one of the best I've ever stayed in and it's right down the road about 1/2 mile away.

Good luck, let us know when to be there to help build trails, assuming you can get all the legal stuff straightened out (and fire Dana).

The place has potential. But is has had potential for several years, and progress has been painfully slow. To top this off Mt Whittier completely screwed the Yankee Toys when we went up there last fall. Even worse aparently the YTs have not even been reimbursed for the costs incured when Mt Whittier canceled our event - on the day it was to start, and after we had all gone up there. Can you imagine making careful plans for the club's big event - then the morning you show up to wheel have the "owners representative" tell you you can not wheel the property. They didn't even have the decency to let us know the night before.
I don't care if Dana has anything to do with 4x4 truck events or not. It sounds like he still has something to do with the mountain. If the owners will not cover the mistakes made by somebody with whom they continue to maintain a relationship, then I'm sorry but I will not be going back any time soon.
I sincerly wish you good luck, and hope the mountain does open back up. Losing the "face" trail is unfortunate, but perhaps other terrain can be opened up.
One suggestion - perhaps the various "owners representatives" and "property leasees" should talk to each other and coordinate events.
For me at least, you'll have to demonstrate the place can operate properly, otherwise if I want to drive long distances to pay to wheel I'll be going to Paragon.

Let's be professional about this and realize that you are talking about a whole new business group here. Dana was the one and only person responsible for what happened to Yankee Toys that weekend. Mt. Whittier is owned by someone else who had nothing to do with this situation. John is talking about doing what we all wanted in the first place, a legal OHRV park. I wish Yankee toys the best of luck, and do not trust Dana any more than you guys. Much like my club, YT knew that this place was high risk. I had posted about it along with several other people on the NEA4WD list server. When I scheduled my club events up there, I knew my club could hang me if the deal fell through. It would have been my fault if this happened.

Let's give Jonny our suport on this and not bog him down with someone elses history.

Thanks

working on this project for the past few years I know almost all of the negative issues at hand, but if you feel like you know something that I don't please tell me...we are looking for feed back and ideas to make the park a better place,(by the way D.Crocker has nothing to do with any 4WD/offroad (ie.truck,TC )activitys at Mt Whittier ANY MORE. and on that note we just to get an idea if we should invest any more time at Mt Whittier
I am sure you all read this snip.

It is not fair to anyone up there to have to carry Dana's baggage, much less deal with it, unless they have to.

I hope YT gets theirs and Dana gets his, but more importantly is that New England gets that mountain.

naysaying does not help to get this accomplished.

I NEEDED POSITIVE FEEDBACK I KNOW THE NEGATIVE

WOW go to work for the day and come home to a cold house...
first of all I am not gonna go over the top here ,BUT I think RVG & GNRRPREACHER summed up what I would have too say about all of this info that could have been E mailed to me directly seeing that this thread is based on or was untill now , A question I asked when I opened this post. I do as I said, understand what happened between said partys last fall and I hope that it gets resolved but I CAN'T help you(FYI read my post DANA is no longer involved), also the trails you wheeled on the day at hand in madison I organized the trail cuts and marked the trails and cut those trails so they would be there for you, every single trail on Mt Whittier except the access road, over the last 6 years I oganized the trail cuts and marked the trails and cut those trails also, so they would be there for you along with numberous other propertys' in NH and is all I hear are negative comments being thrown in my face, you obviously don't know who I am or how I have helped you in the past and I have If you like to wheel in New Hampshire. I am only trying to help give the NorthEast a park of their own and we will, anyways ......I could go on and on but I think the point of this thread is just about lost. FYI as bad as i feel about what happened at MT MADNESS (sort of ironic name)
THIS mt if opened will be a great place for all wheelers ,but if you do not wish to come and play.....sobeit
sorry about this to all who don't need to hear it

I'm going to bring this up to discussion on the NEA email list so we can keep this thread clean of the negatives.

I spoke with Roy tonight and hopefully he spoke with you. Any updates let me know either through Roy or my email. The NEA4WDC supports your efforts and we look forward to a new and exciting future for Whittier Mountain

Re: I NEEDED POSITIVE FEEDBACK I KNOW THE NEGATIVE

i feel bad for what happened in the past.

however, there are plenty of people who have the rigs to wheel there and just want a great legal place to go. one day, weekend, comps, for fun, etc.

don't get down by the few posts here, i don't blame them, they just want someplace to air it out. there are plenty of people that are behind you and would even be willing to help cut new trails, setup, etc. just put out the word.

John,

When YT gets what they deserve, I will wholeheartedly support your mission and promote the park to the best of my abiility. But until that time, I'm sticking to my guns.

I too hope everything works out for all parties.

You asked what we think.

We think we got screwed by Mt Whittier (et al). Whoever's fault it was is still irrelevant. We organized an annual event that folks from all over wait all year to attend, drive hours to attend. Get there and get turned away.. THE DAY OF THE EVENT.. as people are airing down and locking up to wheel. I don't know the politics of what really happend but i do know we didn't wheel the mountain. Ever see National Lampoons vacation when they get there and Wally World is closed. At least we didn't hold the place up at gun point. The weekend as a whole turned out fairly well, and we thank those who came to our aid.

I personally did not attend the event but HAVE been to the mountain swinging an axe, and weilding a chain saw. It is a great place and has TONS of potential if they get their stuff together.

BUT:

YT paid for something they did not get, PERIOD, and deserve retribution.

John,

Sorry but i to must stick to my position also, Dana screwed us out of money that we are now trying to get back. Until we get reimbursted i will not be able to support Mt. Whitter Offroad Park. When we get our money back we will happily support you and your efforts.

Stew
