TMR Customs “THE ARCHETYPE” Buggy Build

Since moving into our new shop last November we felt we’re long overdue for a new project. After completing “THE BLUEPRINT” TJ build in 2011 it’s time for us to up our game and move into a dedicated trail buggy that can withstand more of a beating.

Here's a pic of our last build:

Planned specs for “THE ARCHETYPE” are as follows:

TMR Customs Race Series DIY Tube Chassis Kit

Currie Enterprises F9 Front Axle, Currie Aluminum Knuckles, Currie 10” R&P, Wilwood Brakes, Currie Truss, Currie 4130 Pinion Guard, Locker & Axle Shafts TBD

Currie Enterprises F9 Rear Axle, 4” Tubes, 2.5” Currie Desert Race Floater Hubs, Currie 10” R&P, 40 Spline 300M Gun Drilled Currie Shafts, Currie 4130 Pinion Guard, Locker TBD

Radflo 2.5” Remote Reservoir Coil Overs, Radflo 3.0” 3 Tube Bypass Shocks

6L LQ9, TH400 w/Winters Shifter, Atlas T-Case

Ron Davis Radiator & Heat Exchanger

MasterCraft Safety 3G Seats and 5 Point Harnesses

17” Trail Ready Beadlock Wheels

MAXXIS 40” Competition Trepadors

JAZ Jeepspeed Fuel Cell w/Aeromotive Phantom Fuel Pump

PSC XR Series Steering

Jimmy’s 4x4 Jeep JK Fiberglass Grill, Hood, Cowl

Now onto the good stuff. Our new Tube Chassis Kits are fully modelled in SolidWorks and CNC laser cut/notched. To get started we needed to pick-up a GM truck motor and TH400 trans. We found both locally, quickly stripped the wiring and gave them a quick clean up. Then we built a simple frame/chassis table that we could rest the drivetrain on while we began designing the chassis.

I'll be following along on this one. FYI: Your "last build" pic isn't working.

Sub'ed. Can't wait to see what you guys do with this!
I saw the chassis kits on your site the other day while shopping. Definitely interested to see where this goes.
Thanks guys, stay tuned for more details. We have a ton of updates coming.

Very solid start to a build thread, pictures of a motor and the dirtiest th400 I've ever seen. :flipoff2:
I thought all "tranny's" were dirty? :flipoff2:

Using a pair of junk yard diffs for mock up we laid out our chassis design and finished the 3D model. All the tubes are 2" x .120"W DOM.

Gonna be an awesome build! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, we'll be in touch when it comes to having our harness and computer modded.

Who is going to do the tube cutting?
The tubing is all laser cut locally. Each individual tube is etched with it's part #, makes layout/assembly quick!

You offering up your cleaning services if I buy a bottle? :flipoff2:
Sure...I'll come clean that trans for one of those chassis kits.

and the shop

and grind

pick up dog shit

You guys got a flat spot for me to throw my sleeping bag?

Here’s the first pallet load of completed tubes. The Race Series Chassis Kits are comprised of 215’ of 2” x .120”W DOM, 87 tubes total. Each tube is individually etched with it’s part #. We paint marked each tube to speed up identifying them upon assembly.

After sorting all the tubes it was time for assembly. We chose to slug 6 tubes with solid 6061 aluminum for dent resistance. We slugged the bottom 4 tubes in the belly as well as the 2 rockers. All the aluminum was cut on our Hyd-Mech bandsaw, deburred and slid into the aluminum. Being that the tube is .120”W the 1.5”OD aluminum was a perfect slip fit.
