Please closely inspect or replace the sprag before you put that transmission back together. If it fails later you could have a serious problem.
Okay, thanks!

I just got to get it out of the truck today. Got it washed and in the garage. I will get the T-case and tranny out and to my tranny guy. Probably going to be a while.... I want to enjoy my kids for fathers day.. Maybe next weekend.

So I brought home some Glen Helen..... I can say that with the rear on stands, one can roll the tires no matter what position the trans shifter is in.... I can feel the gears engaging and disengaging in the T-case and the Underdrive.... I feel like its the output shaft. Everything looks fine (dirty and beat, but fine) underneath. Exhaust is broken, and so is the collector. The # 8 spark plug wire keeps falling off too  A little bit of work to do. My buddy is pushing me to race Fallon, If I have some help I can.

Build a 14B front its far cheaper in the pumkin, use the 2005+ SD outers.

:nuke: proof
I guess it depends on how cheap I can find a 05+ SD axle. I do have my old 60 front still kicking around... and a bunch of knuckles, spindles and stubs..... Not to mention a few 14b Detroits.....

Well some new news...

Looks like we might of picked a new Sponsor/Co-dog.. We may be able to race Fallon.....

I have all the skids and exhaust out now. I found out why the exhaust broke. Looks like 2 egg sized rocks and one 1/2 egg sized got between the exhaust and the skid. The cross over tube was flattened to 1/2 its flow and was getting pushed up. I found a couple of cracks too. I think we will run a longer exhaust with a slightly smaller muffler for packaging. The flames out the rear really make me uncomfortable.. We will be sticking with DynoMax as they have kicked ass and I really haven't touched it in 3 years of abuse.. The truck really sounds good (to me) too. Best kind of sponsor, they have a product that doesn't fail and I don't have to keep replacing. Sounds awesome and just does it's job.

Some pics of the rocks and the exhaust. Note the last pic is of the sweet heat shield to protect the shifter cable.

Some tech, Headers are 2" primary x 3.5 collector (shorty) dual 3" to single 4" 10-12" pipe to a 20" long muffler and turn down all before the frame mounts for the rear lower links.

I got some pics together. It was a great race! I'm in a horrible spot now. The truck is at 95%, its race ready, tuned and seasoned. How do I tit will really take that apart???? I do want something to enjoy with my family though....... For now I will fix the tranny and see if we can get some help ($$$$$$) to race the Falon 250. I think out in the desert it will really shine...

Anyways here are some pics and the last one is on the way up on the side of the lip, that's where the tranny went boom.

Leave the 4X4 at home. Take the family on a family trip. i.e. a suburban is good enough.
Getting hot now, but berrago springs was a favorite place. So maybe San Diego this to of year.

Take it easy

Lots of progress in one day!

I have the tranny and T-caseses installed and mounted. Cooler lines hooked up. Shifters connected. I cleaned the mating surfaces of the flexplate and converter, too. It looked weird, it was extra Loctite that had leaked out..... Took a min but did the exhaust too. What a pain in the ass, but done. I just have to paint and re-wrap it.

What's left to drive it out of the shop;
Weld up leak in drivers side header
Install all the DS
Install the skidplates
Replace rear banjo bolt and washers on Driverside (it leaks from a rock hit)
install desert tires.
Add Trans and 205 oil, change motor oil.
Change air filter

Looks like one full days work and it will be ready again..

Pics of the exhaust

The wrap has its ups and downs. Well its got one positive and a bunch of negatives.
You can dam near hold the exhaust while its running. Or makes a huge difference.

But it hold in dirt and moisture, rusts out anything. Unless you run SS tube, and maybe that will corrode too. The wrap becomes pretty brittle too. Lots of fiberglass that gets everywhere. Needs to be replaced once a year from Dry driving. Pressure washer will tear it apart.

Better way would be Ceramic coating and heat shielding. Next truck will have that. Oh and port matched headers.

I didn't take any pics but I got it 95% together. Fired it up topped off the trans, burned in the paint on the exhaust.... Man its a pain to work on it...... I have learned a bunch. There is never "enough" room to work on anything... hahahahah But its about ready to go out again. I just need to replace a banjo bolt on one of the rear calipers, install the rims/tires, and the little pices of sheet metal that goes between the seats... Maybe a few hours with 6 beers.......

I have been inching to drive it.... Maybe I'll try out the 40 DOT Nittos....

Will be writing that off the mod list

Don't get in too big of a hurry on making fiberglass parts. It is a lot of effort to make them reasonably nice & they still only take 1 hit to ruin them, ALSO.... I am starting a product line of durable plastic body panels for offroad use and the squarebody is early on the list. Without going into details... think RC car body.
If you have questions on this Jack, PM me. I'd like to work with you. This is real, not just talk.
Any update on this? Been 4 months:flipoff2:

EDIT: dont ask how many pages I had to reread to find this haha

Okay so I went to our local car swap meet and picked up some more shocks... Got them for a steal. Looks like the 73' will be wearing the same Red shocks. They are 10" travel witch will be perfect for the leaf springs (for now). As I cannot get myself to take apart my Blazer. Sooooooooo I put it all back together with some new (to me) shoes. H2 and some DOT 40" Nittos. Looks like we will be doing a run up in the Mts pretty soon. I did have to run some wheel spacers on the H2's though. The 5.25" BS is just too much as I built it around the Raceline that is 4" BS. I think I will sell the H2 wheels and get another set of wheels. I will post some more pics soon. Things have been happening on it, it just take a bunch of time putting it back together...

All that's left is re-install the speakers, tool box and oil rack. Then fill up the tool bags and box. Oh and get fuel... Not bad.....

Since you never gave a real detailed update, did you snap your trans output shaft, or was it something else in there?
Oh shit, my bad. Ya it was a broken stock output shaft of the TH400. Looks like it had been cracked for a while too. I replaced it with another stock output. It was not worth it to me to run an aftermarket output. As the trans needed a rebuild at the same time. We had toasted the 2nd gear clutches. Trans never overheated (output temp was at 250 at its highest and pan temp was never above 220). It went back together just like before.

The shape/profile of the output has more to do with the break than anything else. But maybe its designed that way to break first instead of anything else? I know when I build a 4L80 it will have an aftermarket (correctly profiled) output shaft. Just like our axleshafts.... Its just a really big expense that I don't want to get into just yet. We are talking about $700-$1000 for the output....
