so, i cooked the sprocket on my husky 372 XPG so i have the option of replacing it with 3/8 or going to .404 pitch, how much nastier of a chain can i get in .404?? worth the change?? bar guage works out so i just have a few half toast chains to lose. Someone must have a man chainsaw that can post up. Thanks, JR.

I run a Husky 272xp with an 18 inch bar and use only 3/8 chain, I do use a few varieties skip tooth being the primary one though. It rips though all the stuff I use it for and I have yet to have a problem.
we have 3 of those saws (same 372xp (2), 371xp, & 570) all with 3/8's chains, and 20" bars. the 371 has been turned up and that thing RIPS! dad cut wood for 20 years and he always ran 3/8ths.
fwiw the 570 feels quite a bit heavier then the 371/372. it cuts good, but is kinda doggy in big softwood (white pine). it hasnt been turned up either.
