ball joint to heim conversion pins

Getting ready to build a set of heim joint tie rods for my 2500hd and I have just about everything figured out except for the connection of the outer tie rod at the factory steering knuckle. From what I've found, I have two choices.

1. Buy a reamer and ream out the knuckle to accept a straight 3/4" bolt. A cheaper solution to this route would be using a step drill bit that ends in 3/4".

2. Find a ball joint to heim conversion pin of the strength and size required to fit in factory knuckle with zero modification, similar to blitzkrieg motorsports, ready lift, etc.

I'm leaning towards option # 2 but only due to the fact that this would allow me to switch back to factory style tie rod set up in the event I would sell the truck. Reaming the hole to 3/4 doesn't bother me at all, but trying to sell the truck to a person who cant buy an over the counter replacement piece does. Plus I'd probably end up reusing my fabbed up tie rods on the next pickup, or sell them. I cannot for the life of me find these adapter pins that fit the 2500hd knuckle sold separately. anyone have an idea or just say screw it and ream that bitch out?

I worked in a machine shop when I did mine. I modded my knuckles and tapered them to fit the big Chevy tre. (Moog part # ES2027L). I picked up another set of stock knuckles from one of my buddies at 4wheel parts. They just throw them out anyhow when they install lift kits.

When I sold the truck I swapped it back to stock and then I had the complete steering setup to sell too.

That's a great idea, I thought about running the 7/8 chevy ends too. I don't have easy access to a machine shop however, or a buddy that has stock knuckles laying around lol...

I think TMR customs have a tapered insert for the knuckle that allows you to run the 7/8 tie rod end. You drill out the knuckle to 1" and toss the insert in and the 7/8 end goes right in, still though, requires drilling.

I wonder if the speedway motors pin would work? http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Adjustable-Tie-Rod-Adapter-Stud-to-Heim,3333.html Guess it wouldn't hurt to try it out for 9 bucks.

why worry about converting back? if you feel it's a safe setup to drive around and wheel with your friends and family in it then why not? as long as your using street approved heims such as Ruffstuff sells and not some tractor parts then you should be fine.

Its not the safety factor that concerns me, it's the fact that once I point it out and mention that replacement joints need to be purchased online and can't be from the local parts guy, some folks might not be so intrigued to hand over the money, or give me shit about having to swap back or whatever. Some ppl don't like it when shit is modified like that, especially steering, whether its safe or not. Although, if they know anything about anything with GM's glorious tie rods, they might pay double :grinpimp:

I emailed Blitzkrieg to see if they would sell just their tie rod to heim adapters separately, as they do with their clevis kits, but no reply as of yet. The speedway motor ones may work, but I would have to replace the garbage nuts they supply them with some something a little beefier.

Metalworxfab on here was making them for a while I believe, but magically disappeared.
