Mid 80's model GM vans had carbed 4.3L's.

I am not sure about the 96 jimmy but the older ones had a 2.8 v6 that had a different bellhousing but there was also the 4.3 that had the normal chevy pattern. I think the 2.8 3.1 and 3.8 all had a different pattern from the normal chevy housing.

 

As far as I know, the only carber 4.3s were in 85-86. You can prolly get a carb intake from an industrial motor supplier (irrigation engines and what not) and put it on a later model injected 4.3 if you cant find a carb version. Also note that 85 model 4.3s have a 2 piece rear seal, which makes rebuilding the engine a pain in the ass if you have to locate a new crank.

 

1996 Jimmy 4.3l V6 has the 90* SBC V8 style bellhouse pattren. The 2.8 3.1 and 3.8 had the 60* style.

 

The 2.5L 4cylinder (iron duke) is also a 60* small chevy pattern.

 

edelbrock makes a 4bbl intake for a 4.3 v6. so do a couple of others, i think.

Search a little, find a lot.

 

I believe to be SMOG legal (Calif car), he needs to use a computer controlled carb, among other things for the swap he's outlining. I don't think any '87 or later cars had "plain" carburation.
