Dana 30 Locker Question

Can you run a low cost locker on a Dana 30 without going to locking hub conversion? I mean, Lock Right or similar. OX would be fine, and I may go with that. Everything I read explains that lockers like Ausie or Lock Right are a problem driving on the street. I do about 50/50 Street/Dirt driving. I just got this little YJ and am trying to figure out my options (low buck, best for my buck?) for what I have. Oh I'm only running 31s now and would probably go to 33 or 35 someday down the road. NOT build a Crawler. Let me know if you have any insight. Thanks!!!:homer:

Same here. Ran Aussie Lockers in my D30s for years before swapping out to a Dana 44 and ran one in that too. You can't tell when its in 2wd.

my bad, i did this mod over 5 years ago so i fergat what all was involved. i still like the fact i can fully disengage the hubs, i have a front locker, so in the sand in two wheel drive it binds some. with the hubs unlocked it don't.

Well, since you have a YJ, you probably have a HP30 with the vacuum disconnect (CAD). That helps in terms of having a locker on the street because the front drive shaft wont spin in 2wd, however it can lead to problems wheeling becuase you can split the little sleeve in half and you are stuck in 2wd. My suggestion would be to swap the 2 piece axle shaft out and slide in a 1 piece TJ long shaft. nothing else is required, just the shaft and make a block off plate for the vacuum housing. Your front drive shaft will spin all the time so you might have to go and get your front driveshaft balanced... (approx 40-50 bucks).

i've been running 33"s for the time i've had em.one of the hubs just wore out. i rarely wheel the Cherokee, it's the wife's daily driver, and it's more set up for Jeep speed cause rock crawling bores the shit out of her.:shaking:
