E8248 Fuel Pump-I dig it

So after 6 years of running a few E2000 pumps (2 years on a 4.0, 4 years on a shortstar) and after searching on this board I went with the E8248 on my 3.5l shortstar.

The truck was always snappy in 4low but kind of bogged in highrange. I thought it was just the nature of the 3.5 car motor. This pump solved that problem. I have more power in low and high. It fires up everytime with no gas pedal pump, which became common as the E2000 got older. This was a great fix and upgrade for the same price as a E2000. $99 from Advance Auto online with Free Shipping.

I was also experimenting with Prefilters, As I have always had stuff get in my cell, dirt, trees, grass.

I use to use a cheap puralator glass filter with removable element. It worked but was so small so it would easily clog. I upgraded to a bling summit filter but I could tell the pump was struggling as this style pump hates to pulll.

I found a off the shelf solution and it works great. Performance Filter PF4777 It cross references to Puralator F43178. I use that a prefilter and standard YJ filter as a post.

Hope this helps someone.

Here a video of me hammering on it

I found 50 horsepower, easier starting and better durability in the 8248 as well. Went through two e2000's in a few months, now the 8248 has been in there for almost a year without a problem. I highly recommend this pump too.....

use the google

Airtex # E8248 Elec Fuel pumps are available through most auto parts stores.

This is an INLINE (not in-tank) rollervane pump for high-performance applications with Multi-Port fuel injection. ...It can be mounted in any position. The pump is supplied with two wrap-around cushioned mounting brackets. ...The inlet & outlet connections are barbed fittings to accept 3/8" fuel hose. (Be sure to use EFI hose rated for high pressure systems!)

Specs as follows:

12 volt - negative ground
60-70 gph max
110-120 psi shut-off
7-3/4" long x 1-7/8" dia

Flow at nominal fuel system pressure of 36psi is approx 45gph drawing 8amps at 12vdc

This pump is suitable for use with leaded gas, unleaded gas, or gasohols.

You should install a suitable strainer between the tank and pump. ...A METAL hi-pressure filter should be installed between the pump and engine.
E2000 flow 30-40GPH at 70-95 PSI

Mine didn't come with the correct AN fittings. I got them from Gary/Greg(can't remember but it is one of the 2). He built my entire fuel setup and it was all plug and play.

This is the pressure side. The silver fitting is exactly like what is on my fuel rail. They are GM O-ring fittings adapted to AN. The bronze colored fitting screwed into the pump came with the pump. (For information-The pump pictured was my E2000. But both fittings were exactly the same from the E2000 -> E8248. It made swapping pumps simple).

I wasnt aware if this pump until a few days ago. I'm running an E2000 with my 4.0L YJ and wondering if swapping over would be worth it, I havent noticed any performance drop but its been in there since my 60s and big tires went in...

About the same price, $90-100 (see OP 1st post). I think Summit might have them for $5 cheaper too.

I'm running the e2000 on a Jeepspeed 4.0L and it has been working fine for 2 years. I'd say under extreme racing conditions, these pumps should be replaced after one year. The breakdown of foam and rubber bits in my tank is taking a toll on filter and pump.

Our race in Barstow this year was warm. I think racing temps were 112 degrees over about a 4 hour time frame. Felt the fuel cell afterwards and it was very warm from ambient temp. No problems with fuel delivery and pressure (40-45psi on the fuel pressure guage).

Todd,

Aeromotive sells the -8 fitting you are looking for. -6 is asking for trouble feeding any sort of hp engine. You need -8 in and -6 out .....as a guideline.....depends on many factors suchs as hose lengths, location, pickups, filters and flows.

Building a fuel system that properly addresses the demands of a u4 style rig is fairly complex.

My tank is a custom piece and the person that built it put an AN-6 on the outlet. My prefilter is an AN-6 (Earl's part number 230206, 85 micron) inlet and outlet. I know the OE setup was an intank pump and a 3/8 inlet to the only one filter in the system and a 5/16 to the fuel rail. So, I think it is the similar flow as the OE setup.

I have a fuel pressure guage after the pump and it is only showing a 35 PSI to the rail. Maybe the pump is going out? But I would think a better flowing pump would help.

I'm running 2 Walbro GSL 392 pumps. One primary and a secondairy backup plumbed in with a 3 way toggle switch.
To keep these pumps alive, I'm feeding them with 2 Faucet "feed pumps" pulling through 2 walbro pickups. The feed pumps will both run at the same time using 2 seperate circuits.
The feed pumps will go into an accumulator and the high pressure pumps will pull from that.
Like Camo says, Complex.
