What have you guys done about the factory oil cooler lines on your 8.1L or similar Chevy motors? It has a plastic quick disconnest right now with hard lines. I cant really afford braided lines. Any suggestions? anyone know what size the fitting is?

personally I did away with the cooler. Used the LS1 block off which provided a place to drill and tap for my autometer sender. I am just going to run a good syn oil. I would bet alot of others have done away with it as well. I dont see why hard fuel line would work, but it would be eaiser to run hose, I guess FI rubber hose would work, but dont know for sure.

Perfect timing Odin. I was just test fitting the headers on my 8.1 and I was wondering the same thing. WTF do I do with these oil cooler lines? LOL Hury up and figure it out so I don't need to worry about it :flipoff2:

I think I'm going to dig up a factory oil cooler and run it. I don't have a lot of space for a big rad so a little extra cooling won't hurt.

The fittings on the block are NPT fittings, so just get some NPT to AN fittings from summit. You should not just plug them per chevy. I talked to a few people at chevy about it and they were not sure if it would block all oil flow or not, but they said at a minimum you needed to connect them together, and recomended running a cooler of some kind.

I used the NPT to AN fittings, and bought cooler with 2 inlets and 2 outlets, one for my trany and one for the oil... No problems so far.

yeah I figured out what they were after I posted. I'm a little slow sometimes lol. They are 1/2" NPT.

I figured I would end up running AN fitting and braided hose or something. Im just trying to find a cheaper alternative for now. I talked to a local hydraulic shop about making some lines for me. There concern was how how the engine oil got. They said the hose they have will only handle 180*.
