That's exactly what I was wondering too. I'd rather a blemish from heating with a torch with the air method, than a split along a seam using water pressure

that method is very intriguing but seems like a crap shoot between blowing something up and fixing the problem. A way to control the flow and pressure might make it viable for a number of uses.

 

Good idea. Safer than using air pressure only to pop the dent out (although I doubt a pipe would explode spectacularly).

 

I made caps with exhaust clamps and chunks of a truck mud flap and put a shrader valve from an old inner tube in one of them. Add 30 psi and torch the dent out. IMO less chance of changing the overall shape of the pipe or splitting it. I dont care about discoloration, the pipe is already ****ed by the time its time to fix the dents. There are pics floating around of pipes ruined by the freeze method.

The only dent I'd worry about is the small one by the header flange, and that one would be easy to hammer out. Factory teams used to beat dents into brand new pipes for some free power.

Scared to blow a seam or inadvertently change the general shapes

I've been too busy to go and get a new top end, or anything else for it yet
