Making a steering column out of a Toyota 4Runner tilt steering column. Does anyone know how to remove the ignition switch to get it unlocked? I'll end up taking the plasma and grinder to it but figured I'd try and ask too. Got some more welding wire today so be back in business tomorrow after work.

Its been a couple days you done yet?

My daughters 3rd birthday was yesterday so we were busy. I did get out for a few hours today and got the floor and center console all buttoned up with the seat mounts set. I tried to mock up the pedals but the tilt steering column I had shit the bed and the linkage broke in it so I may just scratch that idea and run a tube straight to the orbital. I think at this point I'm going to get the fire wall and dash in but save the floor panels and skins for last so I can take this to my buddies shop and use the brake and shear. Also got the atlas shifters trimmed up and setup correctly now.

Floor panels coming together. What a pita this is. Plasma cutter helps for sure. I'm going to make the foot areas rigid and create access panels to get to spark plugs and what not. I really needed this part in on the driver side I felt so I could get my pedals set.

i used a 3/4" heim for my steering column in the buggy, works great just have to squirt it with some lube 2 or 3 times a year so it doesnt squeek as it was a cheapo left over heim i had laying around

Exactly what I was thinking. I had a steering column adapter I traded to a buddy for that Toyota column and it was a 3/4" I'd bearing. I'll order a cheapo heim off eBay.

the only down side to how i did mine is if i ever want to completely remove the shaft from the buggy i will have to cut the shaft(3/4" solid rod) as one side is welded to the u joint and the other side is welded to my steering wheel quick removal coupler thingy  not really a big deal for me as i dont really have a need to completely remove it, i just slide it out of my way if i need to.

Mine will be the same way but not sure what I'd ever need to remove the column portion for. I can remove the wheel and orbital guess that's all I care about.

Once you get it all fitted. Put the shaft and ujoint in a vice and drill 1/4 hole through both and the use a 1/4" bolt and nylock. Now it's removable:flipoff2: did you do all your interior with sheet metal? Thats gonna be a heavy MF'r
