looks like all you need is a couple doors and 2 sheets of sheet metal. haven't a clue what a tracker frame consists of but you'll need to stretch that too. the doors will give you your side skins. id just split the body through the doors like i did and extend it what ever amount. then cut your doors down to make up that distance and relocate the striker section from the body to the front side of the new doors which are now welded in as side skins. probably just use sheet metal to finish in the front half of the window frame. try to save as much of the old window track and just use plexi for the glass. id use sheet metal to fill in the floor and roof. maybe find a truck bed for the corrugated floor because its a bitch to bend in all the ribs. they are much needed for strength.

be even easier to just find another body and cut it the same way only leave more floor section on it to give you the added length.

then just go around the entire rear half with a set of these. or even better a pneumatic set for speed. should fit together like two Lego's after that. then rosette weld the thing together, cut the door down and the striker out of the unused rear half and weld them together.

I have an air stepper and hole puncher. It does totally help!!!
And You're spot on on the door skins. I have some spare doors kicking around so that's what I'm using...

I like your build because as I mentioned its a different direction you'd normally see on one of these forums.

Anyways. I'm well into my build.

Perhaps I will update this thread and turn it into a build thread of mine... I'll update as I find time to catch up with where I'm at...

Stay tuned

I just finished my build a few months before ...

...and then this happened:

I had a pretty major rear end collision in the States (I live north of the boarder):

Image

The truck took the hit at nearly 60 miles an hour pretty good. Saved me for sure! But the cage was tweaked so the pass door wouldn't open. The rear suspension was all mangled and the axle was literally pretzeled.

Also. Rear bumper was cracked/bent. And some damage to the rear corner of the body was done which also caused some interior damage, namely the back of the wheel-well is all weird and miss-shaped due to a tweak of that corner.

I guess all of it was "fixable" to bring it back to the way it was but I realized that with similar effort I could make some advancements. So that's what I decided..
Just trying to get the most bang for my time in an already crappy situation. I don't want to feel like I will have spent another several months grinding away in the cold garage just to end up where I already once was... :shaking:

the guy that hit me:

Yup. The Exploder did not fair as well against a full body armor...

It really hurt having to cut up a fairly new rig. Honest. I got a bit emotional /angry when piling up parts that took a lot of effort and thinking to make. But what are you gonna do? Gotta move forward:

Cage has been cut and some parts are starting to pile up.

... and anything from above the frame is stripped...

I'm starting to see a pattern here with fords and ford owners.

got cut off by a lady in a ford and had to run up on a curb in my Geo prism to keep from getting hit. ripped up my fiberglass body kit pretty good. i then had to follow her to let her know what she did and she tried to chew my ass for turning onto the 4 lane street when she was. she didn't seem to know that you're suppose to turn into the left lane when making a left hand turn onto a 4 lane street so the guy turning right can turn into the right lane.

pulled around a corner "not a blind one" after dropping a ford owner off at their car and had to stop because i dropped a lit cigarette. got rear ended by the same dude i just dropped off and totaled out my car. pushed my trunk into the back seat.

was driving down the road one day when a ford exploder came shooting out of their drive way right in front of me, across the street and up into someones yard. if i hadn't wedged on my brakes Ida gotten side swiped. i stopped and got out of my zuk and walked up to the drivers window flipped off the old lady behind the wheel then got in my zuk and drove off.

pulled into my drive way one day, got out of my car and heard a door shut behind me. turned around and saw a lady and her husband walking toward me. they proceeded to tell me that the cops will be there soon because i was driving too fast down the street in front of their house. seems they posted their own 15 mph sign on a 30 mph street because their dogs keep getting hit. i proceeded to laugh as the cop issued them a ticket for posting a traffic sign without consent. i now drive 40 down that street.

just today and yesterday i was stuck behind a ford going 25 in a 40. i passed him both times making sure to throw gravel at him with my tires. today the dumbass followed me to work. i saw him parked behind me and i got out of my car and walked up to his window. when he rolled it down i let him know what i though of slow drivers. asked him if he even knew how to count to 40. he just looked at me with what almost resembled confusion. from the looks of it, the guys family tree turned into a vine a long time ago. he didn't have much to say.

sorry ford owners, but i hate most of you dumb shits. you couldn't give me a ford. id rather walk.. sorry for the rant. ****in' fords!!!!!

sorry to hear about the damage to your rig. that really sucks. the tube front end looks baddass!!! that took some work I'm sure. its sucks to be stuck on the road with other people who seem to take driving a vehicle for granted. rarely do you hear of a guy who built their own rig causing an accident. the guy who builds his own vehicle from the ground up tends to know how to drive it.... ****in' fords!!!!!

You have a Ford guy helping you build your Sammi!:flipoff2: Next time I come over to weld on your Sammi, I am welding a blue oval to it when you are not watching.:D At least the Ford guys aren't the imbeciles driving around town with their high beams on. I swear the GM truck/suv owners don't know what a dimmer switch is. Flash them, point directly at them and they still don't get it. And don't get me started on all the kids in their Duramax powered, lifted, smoke stacked poser wagons! Maybe I will show up at your garage in My Ford instead of my Zuk, just to be a smart ass! :flipoff2: Don't worry someday you will be good enough to add ASE master certification with Ford too!
O.K., enough harassing my friend. My paid membership has expired, but if you search "Farewell to Raging Squirrel Tracker" there is a picture of my Track/kick pickup. If anyone wants to past the pic over here it is fine with me. I just completed a Samurai pickup conversion, but kept this one's body at stock length. I may later on build a bolt in "tray" that would convert the bed to an increased length when needed. Look at a picture of the Australian "Utes" from the 40's, same idea. I need to renew, so I can transfer my build thread and pics over here.

The Explorer left some memories of itself:

Check out the rear diff.

The nearer 1/2 of the axle is straight. Compare it to the further half. That's a pretty major bend. Also note the total amount of bend was the housing PLUS the amount the shaft bent as well. Check it out in the background standing next to my red stand...

So I cut off the panhard bracket. It was the only thing salvageable:

And the scrap pile keeps growing:

At this stage I am ready to cut into the body. Dave (Dumb) has stopped by yesterday and we spent about 3 hours strategizing. Things are starting to seem clearer and clearer.

I will have some time between now and New Years so maybe we'll realize some progress.
