#13 ·
got the rear section of the frame welded to the uni body.. i'll sand that all smooth and plate over it when i plate the rest of the rails..

hopefully make a run to the steel yard tomorrow, pick up some .188 plate for reinforcing for unibody, some 2x6x.188 for the rocker/sliders, and some other odd an end shit..

#16 ·
im not complaining yet.... get all the suspension mocked up here in the next couple days.. gunna run stock coils in the rear and probably some V8 ZJ 6.5s in the front then i'll trim those down if i need to but i need to get anything that would fall into sprung weight, in it.. so the motor, tranny, tcase, cage, fuel tank, suck down and recovery winches, front bumper, and a cooler of course

HA!! it took me a while to figure out what the fuck you were talkin about.. i was like my seats aren't even in any of these pics...... lol but i do have some fairly nice seats for it already...

#21 ·
kinda feel like i didn't get shit done today, helped out dad quite a bit with that '78 chevy pickup in the background in some of the pics.. but here's what did get done...

went to the steal yard to get some 2x6x.188 for the new rockers, that took up the majority of the morning.. got both sides completely built and almost completely welded on.. had to notch a 47" section where the door jam an the floor come together so it would come up tight on the inside of whats left of the factory rocker... here's some pics of those mother fuckers..

annnddd one of the driverside..

also wire wheeled an flap disc'd all the shit off the rails so i can plate them tomorrow.. some asshole (pretty sure it was me......) unplugged the battery charger for my cordless drill, so, didn't get to drilling spot welds and removing the front leaf spring mounts, rear seatbelt mounts, LCA and UCA mounts, and the factory seat mounting studs in the floor... then clean all the shit off rails thats underneath all that trash.. but here's how far i got with that.....

gotta love lifts....

glad that shits over..

no pictures.. not because i forgot the camera, jus too lazy to go take some of what i did today....

but.. got the rest of the shit off the rails, (LCA mounts, UCA mounts, front leaf spring mounts, rear seatbelt mounts, and shaved the lip off the inside of the rails behind the LCAs)

also got the rear section of the uni-body plated and the pieces made to plate the middle secion, get those welded on tomorrow an hopefully get a good start on the rear suspension..

Thanks clint... did you make a build thead for that beastly dodge on here??

EDIT: nevermind.. i found it :grinpimp::grinpimp: this's my buddy Clint's build up.. check it out.. one will shit his pants.. http://pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=849283

callin it a night... ran out of gas and wire and also burnt up my last welder tip and plasma consumables today.. all within an hour.. :mad3: that was an expensive trip to air gas.... anyone have an online hookup for consumables??

got the rails plated and capped up to the front of the rockers and started the rear suspension crossmember.. will have that finished by noon tomorrow probably..

also gunna have to cut up and rework my rear truss to better accept coil springs vs air shocks which was the original plan.. should have the rear sittin on its own by tomorrow night.. that will include pictures for sure..

#28 ·
finally took some pictures.. got the rear 4 link cross member abour 90% complete... still need to box the bottom side of the LCA mounts and a few gussets here and there..

also need to cut some new UCAs.. these particular links im reusing off my last crawler that never really got finished haha but.. i'll cut some longer UCAs an that'll put the pinion up where it belongs and make is so they're not maxed out of adjustment on the rod ends..

thanks.. and thats exactly what im going to do.. i'll never ever ever bend a 4"x.500 wall axle tube, so its kinda overbuilt in the first place..

Holt shit, got flex? Damn that looks nice man!
Really diggin the rear off that and your fram work. Makes me wish I'd taken more time on mine...
haha thanks matt.. thats as high as i wanted to go considering nothing on the axle was permanent (all the bracketry is just tach'd on) and thats a 500lb axle suspended from a shitty ass ratchet strap.... that was just about maxed out though..

I like how you did your upper mounts. I'll have to remember that for my next build. Any plan the round the edges to match the lower mounts?
yeah i'll jus touch um up with a grinder.. im also going to do some more gussets here on there on it...

kinda nice seeing someone "un-noob" the Cherokee forum.
To bad you are going to go back to school and we aren't going to see updates until summer.
i know your tellin me.. i need to save up some cash anyways.. still need to find a dana 300 then i'll make a clocking ring.. also need a H.O. 4.0l and an AW4..... that'll get it rollin on its own power... then i'll weld it front and rear till i can get some detroits and 7.17s..
thanks for the "un-noob" comment... :D

today was the last day i had to work on the XJ.. goal for the week was to get it rolling, so in order for that to happen, the front suspension needed to be designed and built today..... got it done =) minus the track bar...... kinda scabbed somethin that is EXTREMELY TEMPORARY i didn't even want to flex it with that piece of shit in there... strictly for holding shit still while it gets rolled around the shop till i can get an engine for it..

everything as far as the front suspension goes is only firmly tach'd together, in case i need to move anything around when the engine tranny an t case get set in.. my DD is the same exact thing as this rig **'93 2 door XJ 4.0 auto** so i had something to pull measurements from as far as the crossmember placements go..

EDIT: dont ask why that axle mount is adjustable... my dad drilled the holes in it and i told him to drill three holes in it at 8" 9" and 10" of separation... i got 5" 6.5" 8" and 9.5" haha.. i'll make it work..... if not, i'll make a new one an drill the holes in it myself..

now for the wonderful excuse of a track bar.. again.. if you were to lazy to read the above paragraph..... TEMPORARY.....
