I'd say it's nowhere near too stiff. You're at ~136 lb/in combined rate, much softer than stock springs and softer than just about any aftermarket spring. I was at 300/350 (combined of ~160) and transitioning to the 350 relatively quickly, and that rode great.

You also don't want to be on the bumpstops just by flexing. If you can bottom it out with just the weight of the truck on it (0 G's), it'll bottom out way too easily if you hit anything with a lil bit of speed or drop off a ledge, etc.

For the small amount of uptravel you'll be running I'd say you're better off getting a shorter upper spring instead of softer, and running a tender coil. 14" of travel is a lot to package on the front of an XJ and you'll probably be happier with stiffer springs or a swaybar out back instead of softer up front.

Where's the dual rate stop set at? How much do the springs compress with the weight of the truck on them?

I'd also suggest getting a tower brace in there before you take this thing wheeling.

Thanks for all the help vette.. That all makes complete sense.. So a 10" or a 12" upper coil that's maybe a little stiffer atta bring my ride Hieght back down to this level?

I'll head out now and take some measurements

Honestly man, how much uptravel do your shocks have at your current ride height thats too high?

As I've become more and more comfortable with my WJ over the years I've actually raised it to give myself more uptravel and make everything more comfortable haulin ass. I can't really get a good perspective how tall your XJ is to the roof, but from what I can see it doesn't look terrible, especially if its letting you pull 7" uptravel out of those coilovers. I say run it, or do minimal changing

Another note, Lift one of the rear tires to max out the front coilovers. By lifting the rear your transfering all the trucks weight to the front end and I bet you'll be maxing things out or damn close to it with your current setup, which would be pretty much ideal in my eyes

The more I look at it and the more I read what you guys have to say....... The more I agree and like how it sits now

If you build your shit right, the first thing to max out should be the shock... Otherwise you just wasting travel...

Sitting at least 4" if not 5" too tall...

Mine sits at 49" at the same point that yours sits at 51". I have always felt like mine is real stable on steep off cambers and it handles well. That was before the cage though, prolly gonna be a little different now. Looks to me like you could stand to lower it a little. Looks bad ass though, I would really like to get coilovers for the front of mine and 4 link the rear. all in due time. I might want to get a job first :shaking:

Hey Nate, when the hell is this thing gonna be on the trail?!? :flipoff2:

I would say run a softer upper spring instead of shorter, and maybe even a stiffer lower. Running 250s top and bottom kinda defeats the purpose of a dual rate setup. Ziggy has a ton (boxes & boxes) of extra coils, when I set mine up he let me barrow his extras so I could get mine dialed. Also a rear sway bar will help a lot, A car feels much more predicable/stable to me when the front flexes the same or even easier then the rear over an obstacle.

Looking good though!

I think he should atleast try his current setup before spending more time tinkering

Not true. The combined rate of the two springs is much lighter (Vetteboy stated 136lb/in, I haven't done the math). the main stage of travel will be the 136lb/inch rate, but when he hits the dual rate slider it will step up to the true 250lb/inch rate of his lower spring. Thats nearly a 200% step up rate.

Mark, call me... 541-977-1404

I definitely intend on running a rear sway bar, just haven't gotten there yet..

I have two weeks to finish this shit box... Shop is moving away...

Bring on the energy drinks...

Ran out of tubing and plate, and being Sunday... Steel yard is closed... Using today for Shifters and OBA...

They're upside down in this pic obviously

That's a great point, but sticking with his current setup wont get him any lower.

Nate, I moved to Hawaii for a year or two due to a new job. I'm bummed I wont be able to see this thing in person for a while... Snap some good action shots for me!!

Lucky bastard lol I will for sure..

I was thinking about my hieght issue and I think if I just make the towers taller.......... That will keep my up travel out of the red zone (bottoming out on everything) and will make my shit lower.. More work? yes... Worth it... I'm ok with how it sits now... But if you know the kind of person that I am, I'm not ok with just being "ok" with it...
