TF999 problems

I'm having some issues with my TF999. I'm running a stockish 360, 999, and stock D300. The last time out, I had an odd problem with the rig. Forward gears were just fine. BUT, when I shifted it to reverse, the tranny bogged down the motor and damned near stalled it. It had zero power and didn't want to move, but would with enough gas.

I did mash the deep tranny pan on an earlier trail ride, lost about 2 quarts, then limped it out under tow, then replaced it with a regular pan. It had fluid, good red color. I'm lost. Fluid level is fine...checked it warm, while in neutral.

If I need another tranny, I'm thinking of having this one rebuilt like the link below. Deeper first gear, using a reverse manual VB with compression braking. I don't have compression braking in 1st gear as it is with the Cheetah MVB.

If you have a jeep tf999 it is already 2.78-1 first gear. I haven't heard of any lower gear sets for this transmission, not saying they don't exist i just have never heard of any. If you have a tf727,which looks the same except the pan is offset to the passenger side, you can get a lower first gear for that. I would call art carr performance transmission and talk to them. I believe they are the only ones that carry the "full manual reverse valve body" that you need. Make sure to talk with them about which torque converter your using. It will affect how your transmission performs. I went this route with them. I have a 999 with 2.78 first gear(stock) a well built stock stall converter and a full manual reverse pattern valve body. No tv or kick down cable. A very good cooler. Properly adjusted shifter linkage. Temperature gauge. I wheel hard with it and drive it on the street on occasions. The only time it ever got hot was when i first took it out and the shifter was not adjusted properly. Also avoid the ratchet type shifters or the best you will be able to do before you maybe roll is hit neutral. My .02
As far as you present problem,i would check your pickup and more likely your valve body for damage.

It's a 999. I think the tranny was out of the same CJ as the D300. It's an offroad only thing, so no worries for the street.

If the reverse band servo was fawked, It would not have reverse. It binds up because either the forward clutch is welding itself together, or smashing the pan caused a cross leak and is applying the foward clutch. When you put it in rev, it is trying to go forward and backwards at the same time.

Even if it was trying to go in forward and reverse at the same time, it wouldnt bog the engine down to the point of almost stalling it. It wouldnt be any different than putting it in gear with your foot on the brake.

That said, either we are not getting the full story or something is really fawked.
