I'm in Minnesota so it probably wouldn't be cost-effective to drive down there, but thanks for the offer! It's an International 1654, 26k GVWR. I forgot to ask what kind of brakes it has, but I'm probably going to be checking it out tomorrow so I'll find out and take some pics then.

It'd be replacing my D350 as a car hauler, yeah, and a lot of the reason is because it's tricky to keep from putting too much weight on the front axle of that. I definitely wouldn't have to worry with this one. The cab-to-axle length is actually perfect for a car hauler, but I'd like to put a 48" sleeper on it, which wouldn't quite leave enough room for the flatbed.

Did anyone check out the Rancho/Dynomax car hauler/truck at KOH? That thing gave me a chubby.

Long chassis with a 10-12' sleeper (tall overhead!) with a 3-4' storage box behind the sleeper. The car hauler had a ~20' long, 7' high box in front with ramps in the back. The 2nd level ran on top of the box. Would make a killer rooftop patio in camp. :smokin:

Sorry for the hijack, 4Linked but a somewhat smaller version of this trailer would be sick behind your toter!!

Looks great, I really want to do this.

I was thinking about buying a box van in a 26-30' box on it. Then take the box off and put a 14-16' on it so then I do not have to mess with the chassis length. I just need a gooseneck ball. I am only towing the 6 horse trailer now...
That sounds like a great Idea. You will just have to make sure the wheelbase will allow you to have the Living quarters length you want. With only towing a goose-neck you could leave some frame behind the axle and move the ball back to add more length. Let me know if you get serious about building it. The crane business is not doing so well and have been thinking of building a couple more toters to sell.

The Dynomax truck and trailer were awesome. I have a line on a trailer like that for 2500 bucks. I will try to get some pics.

Checked out the truck...

Ideally I'd like to move the rear axle to the end of the existing frame rails (actually I'd want air ride at some point too, so maybe not quite that far). I'm not worried about weight distribution at all, just overhang/tailswing/departure angle. It has 4 wheel hydraulic discs, and the double frame is just bolted on the outside of the main frame.

Look like a nice truck but older. What is your price range?? Check out this website. www.rtrservices.com There is a ton of everything there all of it repos. I have a newer frieghtliner here at the shop with a 3116 cat and an auto. Everything that is in Indiana is at my location. let me know what u think.

Sorry it has been so long since I have updated I have been working days on the crane and Nights on this. There is a good amount of progress let me know if you have and questions. The box is ready for insulation he is coming tomorrow, the truck went for a test drive on monday it was a cold ride but it had to be done. the truck drove well and was straight going down the road so that is all i can ask for. Here are the Pics
Hello there, can you post some info on frame stretch or length, box length. I have plans on doing something similar but just want to make sure I know what I'm getting into.

I added 15'3" to the frame. The wheelbase started out at 10'6. My box was 16'6" total length and I needed 5' from the center of the kingpin to the back of the box to clear the trailer. Hardest part of the frame stretch is getting it lined back up and finding the the same size frame.

Sorry one more question, I need the bumper to cab length as well. Basically how long is it from front bumper to end of cab?

Here is a pic of us leaving for Harlan KY to Wheel! Was a great time until I rolled my buggy at 40 and smashed my skull into the cage. Damn Miller Lite said I could make the turn that fast. :shaking:

Truck turned out great. I have watched the build on this from the start. What kind of mileage do it get? How is the truck and trailer going into evarts on the two lane? I would say coming from the indy area could have went down 119 in pineville to harlan or went on to pennington gap and over the mountian there instead of coming further up the road to big stone to cross over black mountian.

Mileage with this light trailer and 3 rigs for only 1/4 of the trip, the rest was only 2 I had to deliver the KOH buggy to Richmond, we got 8.5 mpg. Driving is no problem even on the two lane. I even parked it up at black mountain cabins that are right behind the gas station. I will post some pics when i get them from a friend of mine of how we did it. Probably should be on big dumb loads but I will let you guys decide. :D

how long is that setup with that trailer? did anybody give you grief on its lentgh? i thought the max length was 65ft for non comerical and 75 for commmerical. without oversize permits of course
Length law only comes into play when the tow vehicle is considered a truck not a tractor. A truck is capable of carrying cargo on the truck or in other words has a bed, it in combination with a trailer or trailers can't be over 65'. A tractor has no bed and doesn't have an overall length restriction, length law only applys to the trailer, 53' in most states. The combination can exceed 65'. Here in Kansas we can actually pull a 59' trailer! CA has some weird restrictions on 53' trailers, my trailer actually illegal to get to the lakebed, luckily I haven't been messed with. Doubles can't exceed 28.5' each, pulling with a truck you must stay under 65' and if you use a tractor there is no overall length restrictions.

so basically you telling me with a flatbed on a pickup, i can pull 53 foot trailer from the rear bumper to the end of the trailer? that doesnt sound correct to me. a flatbed would be the same as a toterhome.

A flatbed usually counts as a bed for making a truck a non-tractor. There are different laws for different things like auto transporters, it's all really confusing and needless to say lots of tickets get handed out for length all over the place.
