Interesting.

I do show that the GM 9.5" semi float rear axle uses the same carrier bearings as the 9.25" AAM Dodge front axle. Both axles have 12 ring gear bolts, 33 spline axle shafts and use the same carrier. The Dodge 9.25 front has 12 cover bolts, the rear GM 9.5" has 14 bolts on its cover.

If you look on Randy's ring and pinion, it's worth noting that carriers don't match up from the same brand. Look up an Eaton E-locker for a GM 9.5" and I get part number 19684-010, but, look up the same Eaton E-locker for the Dodge 9.25 front and it's a few numbers off: 19622-010.

If what PSYCHOFAB said is true, and a Gov-bomb from a 3/4 ton Chev will fit into the front of his Dodge, does that mean the reverse is true? Will a differential from a front Dodge 9.25" fit into the rear of a Chevy 9.5"? I ask because I'm curious to know if a rear Dodge 9.25" carrier will fit into a GM 9.5" rear. There's a lot of fellas out there who hate their factory Gov-bomb, and the clutch type Traction Lok differential that comes in a bunch of Dodge rears would be a good OEM cheap replacement.

AAM9.25 front, IFS 9.25 and the 14SF all use the same guts. Obviously gears are different being the flipped HP front housing and HP gears compared ot the LP rearend.

Saginaw, spun off as AAM, just repurposed the center chunk in a few applications. Seems to have worked great for them.

Is there any kind of factory clutch type diff for these things? I'm not referring to the Gov-bomb. More or less talking about the factory Traction Lok diff.
I wouldnt use either the gov-bomb or the trash-lok. An eaton coil spring posi, auburn posi, or tru-trac posi would all be superior imo.

so which aftermarket locker do you guys think would be good for a street driven truck. i am about to put a sf 14 in my k5. i could prolly afford to lock it while im at it. not wanting to have to sell a kindey to pay for it, though. dont wanna full spool it either. i like the idea of the rachet style ones, but have no experience with any type of aftermarket locker. thanks

The DC 9.25 is not the same AS AAM 9.25/9.5

I ran this axle in my YJ fer a few years. Full throttle clutch dumping on 38" TSLs, welded spiders... She held up well. I'm actually swapping it into a new rig to be ran for many more miles on and off road.

I would upgrade the yoke tho. The u joint straps suck bad.

Where can I find a 1350 U BOLT STYLE YOKE for these axle, I emailed tom wood, arizona driveshaft, ect and only have strap style, I appreciate the info,

CHEERS

Maybe drill the threads out and put ubolt style in. Did one on another axle but had to dremel the back side so the nuts would fit and fit flat. Just a thought.

i grenaded the spider gears in my stock open semi-float.only took about 3 wheelin trips. could have been an easy fix but decided to just replace it for a welded 14bff with 410s that i picked up for 50 bucks.

yea but he asked for 1350 u bolt style not straps. ive never seen a 6 or 8 lug sf 14 bolt with a stock u bolt style yoke. 1330 or 1350.
i second drilling the holes in a press and taking a dremmel to the back so the nuts sit flat. all the 8 lug sf 14s ive seen are 1350 so just yank one off at a scrappy yard and fabb it

So that's why it's in caps...Got it.
Sorry

I got one at the wrecking yard to replace the 10 bolt in my 1993 Suburban. It had a Gov-Lock in it that I removed the flyweight and all the locking parts. Then I went back and found another one that had the carrier pulled out of it and took the frictions and shims out of it. I added a couple per side and it makes a decent limited slip for off roading. I only run 285/75x16 tires though (32") so not a lot of stress involved. The rear axle will probably outlast the vehicle. The bigger rear drums were a welcome increase in stopping power for the Suburban though. I also read somewhere that the Sterling rear LSD uses the same frictions and shims, have not confirmed that though they do look similar.
