Wow, great job man! It's nice to buy the fun bits, but building it tastes twice as sweet!

Cheers,
Flyfish
Thanks man. I still have a ways to go.

Nice build...how are those tires?
my bet is just like everyone else who fals for military oz tires...:homer:
Not bad for road use. I haven't used them in real off road situations. I assume not that great from what I read. These tires are for just getting me rolling. I'v got a whopping $200 total into my tires. Once I get some axels built I'll look in to better tires. I have heard grooving up a set of Mt's works well. I have a tire groover for supermoto racing. May give it a shot.

Well I'v been putting around town in the Range. She drove nice up to about 40mph (death wobbles). So I figured I'd give the Air Soft BB's a go. I ended up adding 16oz per tire. So I'm up to 50mph now till death wobbles. When I'm going super slow and turing I hear a clunk in my steering/suspension. I have a feeling the bigger culprit is alignment or a worn out part(s). So next is getting it on a rack and checking everything and alignment.

Most of my weekend has consisted of fixing wiring and cleaning up some electrical. That stuff drives me crazy.

I also got around to finishing up my assisted hood. I picked up 2 60lb shocks and brackets. It was a pretty easy job. I feel like I'v been under the hood quite a bit. Its been pretty nice. I did both sides.

My last little update. I bought a single button key fob from CupGT. Like most of them the loop on the back was broken. So I did my thing with it and make it in Carbon.

I have a lead on some axels locally. Hopefully I can make some time in the near future and go get them. More soon...

So I went over to my local independent rover shop. He has given me a few pointers over that last year. Sense I'm having some death wobble issues I figured I drive over to him and have him take a look at it on a rack.... and I feel like a dumb ass.... Although I feel like I have put a wrench on every nut and bolt I never touched the steering. Almost every bolt that touched a steering component was hand tight or loose :shaking:. Its kinda crazy though. The steering never felt very sloppy. (Keep in mind I bought the truck with all the steering upgrades). He also pointed out my rear drive shaft was built upside down. So I'll need to press the uni-joins out and filp it around. All of the bolts to each drive shaft were loose as well. The previous owner did quite a shit job on everything he touched. So I tightened and loc tight everything. I went from only being about to drive up to about 35mph to 55mph. Well thats as fast as I could go just around where I live. Needless to say I put a wrench on everything under the truck. Feeling somewhat relived. :grinpimp:

I'm curious about your steering link set up and how you have it attached to the pitman arm and spindle. could you snap a couple of close up pictures?
Here ya go RoverTech001 Let me kow if you need a better shot.

So a few weeks ago I mentioned that i tightened a lot of steering/suspension bolts on the truck. When I did that I noticed the 2 bolts that bolt the pan-hard/steering box together would get very tight but if you put a single wrench on it and tighten it would ever so slightly spin. Seemed odd. At the time I didn't have much time to look into it. So over the weekend I took those bolts out. I ran across part of my steering issue. The bolts that were used were too small. The ID on the steering box looks like 1/2" but the bracket side needed a 5/8". Not sure what was going in there. The previous owner used a 1/2" bolts. So the bracket side had slop. I brought the big boy drill out and drilled 5/8" holes all the way though. Then installed some fresh 5/8" G8 bolts. Made quite an improvement in my steering/death wobble. Im 99% sure the rest is balancing and tires. Some fresh rubber, balancing and alignment is next on the list.

Old vs New

On a side note i have a 10" LED light bar on the way for the front. Other than that this build may get slow for a little bit. My racing season is kicking off and fuel/slicks are expensive...

Those bolt holes were oversized for alignment/adjustment purposes. If they were moving it's because the 1/2" bolts were not tight enough. Not because the holes had clearance.
But if that's the location that works on your vehicle the alignment/adjustment isn't needed any more so the bigger bolts won't be hurting anything.

Couple of updates. Nothing major. I plan on going on a LR trail ride in a couple of weeks. I figured I'd pick up a CB. So I ordered a compact Cobra CB. I also picked up and installed a tunable 3' Fire stick antenna, ss spring, and fire ring cable. I built the mount when I built my bumper. Im glad its put to good use now.

I picked up some crappy "projectors" off ebay when I got road worthy. I never really thought they looked that great. Prior to buying them I had a set of military LED headlights but the seller backed out. So I'v been keeping my eye out for a new set. Snagged some of ebay. They are 24V so I have some 12v to 24v DC/DC step up converters on the way. Id have to say they look pretty bad ass. Finally I'll be able to see at night. They are DOT and super bright.

So 'v been chasing the death wobble saga around. I had my tires balanced over the weekend. Surprisingly the wheels I built are pretty round and so are my tires. So my next step is to adjust the preload on my swivels.

More soon...

This is what I did when I built the last set of beadlocks and was having death-wobble issues knowing all the other components were "gudntite"...that's german! Dismounted the tires and took the rims to the shop and spun'em up and welded on the interior of the rim where it was asking for weight. If I put too much then I would grind alittle off till they spun up true. Remounted the tires with the beads and now it goes 85mph smooth as a super models ASS! Just a thought. Saw the Iron-clad sticker in your last photo...JJ sold his half and is move'n out to Huntington middle of this month...on a side note! Good luck!

Small world. JJ is the man. I need to get up with him on some more work. Where is Huntington?

My wheels balanced out pretty good. Iv narrowed it down to my swivel and wheels bearings. I ordered all the parts to fully rebuild my swivels. Should* be good to go after that.

Looks very tidy, you've managed to build something function that's also pleasing to the eye.

Far to many get utterly bastardised in the name of 'off road performance'.
I agree, the classic RR looks right and you have kept it tidy as well as improving performance. A lot of the "one life live it" and challenge wannabes over here could learn a lot from looking at your truck. Love the wheels too!
