KLAMATH COUNTY, Ore. - Three drivers were cited on criminal mischief charges after they were allegedly caught "mudding" through Spencer Creek, damaging meadows along Oregon's only tributary to the Klamath River.

creekAn Oregon State Police trooper came across the men after two pickups became stuck in the mud and a third vehicle was spotted trying to pull them out. Large ruts had been cut through the meadows along the creek.

A pickup, driven by 18-year-old Colin Stricklan of Klamath Falls, was completely stuck in Spencer Creek when 19-year-old Philip McDonald of Merrill came to assist him and also became stuck. A third vehicle, driven by Aaron Slikker, 22, also of Klamath Falls came to rescue the other two, creating several large ruts and holes in the soil trying to get the other trucks out. Officials say significant damage was done to the area's natural resources.

Stricklan was arrested and lodged in Klamath County Jail for criminal mischief and reckless endangerment. McDonald and Slikker were cited and released for criminal mischief.

A fourth person in the group who was found hiding in the woods was arrested on outstanding warrants out of both Coos and Clackamas counties. Rodney Green of Newberg was arrested and lodged in the Klamath County Jail.

Sounds like when people bitch about dredgin in the creeks. My brother in law dredges holes big enough to fit ur truck in, in a creek 12 ft wide. Guess what the fish do? They go in the hole cause it makes habitat for em. Every year high water fills it back in. Im sure those guys were out huntin endangered suckers when they got stuck, HA HA, I know its not write to make a trail where ever u want, but some people dont know better, and to through them in jail, **** that, jails for child molesters, murderers, drug dealers, ect. hard ass shit. O dont forget politions. Here BLM is screwin up are land. Shut it down for ridin atvs, no wheelers over 52" wide. I mean WTF. Sounds like those guys were havin fun and got caught in the wrong spot. There was probably more covered wagon ruts than we will ever make, and there gone now.

good maybe teenagers (which i am one) will start learning to wheel by the rules. It only comes back to hurt us as a whole when people are wheeling where they shouldnt be. Im glad they jailed guy who got stuck. I can understand the other two trying to pull a friend out but personal opinion tells me they need smarter friends.

This kind of wheeling is the best 4 wheeling! **** tread lightly! As long as the military tests bombs, **** up Iraq and all the other shit that is going on I don`t care where I go wheeling.
Tread Lightly will never ever help to keep public land open! With tread lightly and that other bs, they admit that they destroy the inviroment.
I also think that it is bs that the creeks over whatever is getting destroyed by 4wheelers. I made my own trails, and when i came back one year later it was impossible to find the trail that i made thru the woods.
So you treehugers give me all the bad names and whatever, i don`t give a shit!!

i'm not usually one to be wise about spelling and grammer but what the **** is an inviroment.

think u ment environment

humm i'm not going to disagree with any of these statments but as for being arressted for off roading in the woods come on don't you think a heafty fine would be the right action or possibly a registration suspention jail is for criminals

jail is for criminals. these guys are just teenagers out raising a little hell.

these guys might should get a bill to have it repaired, or better yet, mandated to go rent a bobcat and clean up what they ****ed up and some more like it.

that being said, i have cross many streams, rutted out many trails and held my shit to the floor untill it exploded many times.

----and so have all the rest of you fawkers. if you haven't your a lier or a webwheeler. period.

now maybe they did it in a real bad place with a delicate ecosystem, i hope it wasn't. im not familar with the area, but lighten up.

the difference is that these guys did it in a protected area. yeah, I've crossed streams a lot but I try not to gas it and tear up the bottom. If anything I crawl through it.

As far as trails go that kind of thing happens. Those are designated areas for us to use. Having rigs that are more capable help with that kind of action but it still happens. I'm guilty there too. It's probably why more and more private rec areas are thriving. you can play without the risk of being shut down.

I agree jail time is rough but how else can you get the attention. big fines are ok but the stories I tell never end with, "remember that I spent a **** ton of cash" but more like, "remember the time I almost went to jail?"

not everybody has enough money to buy a haul truck pay for diesel and pay for admission fees. yeah he didn't go wheelin in the best spot but from what some of you say, you shouldn't go wheelin at all unless on a closed park.

No, what people are saying is that unless your wheeling on an open trail or in a closed park, you shouldn't be wheeling at all. Don't take this the wrong way, but offroading is an expensive hobby, if you can't afford to haul your buggy to a legit trail, mabye you should have built a street legal rig, and if you can't afford to drive said rig to a real trail, mabye it's time for a new hobby.

i find it very hard to believe that everyone on this board always does the tread lightly thing all the time. when i was 18 and wheeling we went everywhere, from military base tank trails to almost getting stuck in the atlantic ocean. we had fun, the world is still here, and yes, we got caught sometimes.

don't act like you're so much better than these kids, they will smarten up
(hopefully) and continue to have fun , just like me.

i think a fine and some "disaster control" would have been more appropriate.

Sorry asshooooole....
There is no justification for that type of offroading. PERIOD. It does not matter who did what, when, where, why, or how. I wish everyone that drives like they did, end up in jail too. I am sick of seeing tards pulling this kind of crap. Times have changed, wake the fawk up. I have spent a lot of money and a lot of years enjoying offroading. Morons that cant control their driving habits strengthening to chance that I and my kids may have to forfeit the opportunity in the future.
