A few more of the 80 Detroit with 70 gears in the 60 lol. The centering spacers, in new inner seals for 1.625" seal diameter. You can see just how much we cut the carrier for the load bolt. And one of the spreader I made a while ago.

HAHA not the pumpkin I was expecting, talking about diffs and all.

Those are some damn close clearances, good to know it all works out, though.

Jack, I've been following your thread for a long time. Love the ongoing story and the included tech ! Sooo, front D80, 70, 60... Please elaborate a bit more for me. You had the Jana76 set-up which is a 70 gear set on a 60 carrier... (spool or ARB)
I just broke my first 60 R&P. It lasted 1 year with 44's , Big block, doubler, 4-link fr & rear with coilovers. Oh and it's crew cab. ( not as Nicely outfitted as the one you acquired from bark beetle ) but you get the idea. I talked to Jantz about the Jana76 set-up and it will be quite spendy, should I be looking into this SUPER JANA set-up that you are moving towards so it can "be all it can be" the first time and not do it twice ? If you would rather not take the time to explain I will call Jantz again if this is in fact something you have worked with him on.

Thanks for any reply/ info and again for your awesome thread.

I dont know what the Super Jana set-up is, but what I have is. The Original Jana76, plus his Load bolt and billet caps. I think going to his girdle set-up would be stronger, though. I didn't go that route because it would interfere with my steering mount.

With the BBC the doubler and 44's in a Crew Cab, your options (as I see them) are(in order of strenght);

-Jana 76 w/cryo treated Spicer gears, load bolt and girdle.
-HP 60
-HP 60 w/HP70 gears (Currie 5.38 35spline only)
-Dana 80 front
-or the stronger option of the above 14bolt front..........

BTW I think that a HP60 front is stronger than a LP70 front(w/o the load bolt and girdle).

So wait a second, you stuffed a Dana 80 detroit, to dana 70 gears, in a dana 60 housing and are going to run 37 spline 1.6something" shafts with ctm joints and flanges?

Man I feel like a low tech loser. :(

I like how you share all of your thoughts on how you work through issues.

Ya all that shit fits, with help from Carl Jantz of course. Thanks.

You think you will be ready for next weekend?
How close is that little darling to walking?
Soon as she starts get her in the garage with a tool in her hand...and post a picture of her with the biggest wrench she can manage to hang on to.
Then she will be an official "Daddy's Helper".

Nice.

Too bad you keep driving it hard and breaking stuff.

I know a guy who just keeps his 4x4 in the garage and looks at it and thinks about how cool it is….

He almost never breaks any parts on his 4x4….

I will Chris. Ands see you this weekend, (I hope I get everything). I pick up the shafts Friday......

Ya we break shit here and there. Poor Sam he even gets fucked with on my build thread:laughing::laughing::laughing:

Thanks for the response. I will have to do the Jana76 set up with all of the goodies, as I already did a full Artec truss and steering mount for the full Hydro set-up, and all of my link mounts. Makes for a tough sell just to start over on a 14B. Just like everyone else if I could do it over from the beginning I would have done a 14 but It has been a 7 year process of wheeling, breaking, building, repeat... I've had the rig for about 12 years but it used to be my tow rig...standard cab long bed on 36" Swampers.

Couple of reasons.

-D60/70/14 share the clutch gear size. the D80 is bigger.
-I had the D80 Detroit and got it for CHEEP!
-35 spline side gears (that I tried to get) for the 80 are $120 each and 16 weeks away.

I wanted a stronger front end. It was an obvious choice. I get better in everything. Driving Detroit vs. Spool, Strength 37 vs. 35, and cost <$100:smokin: Only time will tell if the D80 Detroit will hold up to my Drive-by-brail driving style.

Hey Chris,

The weekend was fun, NO Blazer though. The axles were not ready so its still on jack stands. But we went out with Tims Toy, we had a blast. That little truck just works. We ran a line that no one else was able to do:eek: I was also a judge, so that was fun.

I think my shafts will be ready mid week, so I plan on getting things up and running by the weekend. (I hope).

3.075"(maybe its 3.0625"? Dana usually goes with round numbers) x .500" wall. Its from an early Dodge housing. I think other king pins are 3.250", the other Normal Inner C is on a stock 78' HP Ford 60.

And a few more
