i have a customer that came into the shop that wants to build 5 TJ's with very wide (20-30") tires for floatation on his duck hunting camps (he owns 5)
since i think this would be a good place to get some opinions here goes
he has not bought anything yet he told me to give him a estimate on cost and he will buy all the stuff
i have found some ag tires that are 42x24x20 they weight 212 ea
i was thinking of rockwells since this is a fairly cheap conversion, or an i wrong

should he get auto's or manuals 4 or 6 clyinder he is going to get 2001 and up only so fire away and let see what happens

I would go rockwell's and pinon brakes. This way you can get rim's easier to fit on the axle that will hold them tires.Pm windrockguru http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/member.php?u=39942
He has turf tires on the rear of his rig and has a friend that has them all the way around.I figure pinon brakes will keep it cheap so maybe you can get the job.60's would work but I would worry more about them breaking it if they got it stuck in the mud.Email me if you want some link's to wheel's etc..and in the meantime I will look through my favorites to find the websites where I have seen this stuff at.I would go with the 6cyl motor so it has enough power to spin the tires if needed. If you are a good fab guy maybe you can sell him some custom built buggy's that way you make more money in your pocket instead of buying new jeeps then tearing them apart.Just a idea.I would also go auto tranny to keep it customer friendly for his guest. There are people out there now day's that can not drive a stick. You could quote him 5 4 seater buggy's,gm crate 350 stock,th-350 or 400 with a np 205 behind them.Just do a simple cage design and you could even put gun rack's built into the cage for him.I bet you could build them cheaper for him thatn buying the jeeps and modifiyng them and make more money.

good idea ripper i will check on the buggy type vehicle
i am no where near good enough yet to build one from scratch but i know some people out there make them like BTF and others i am sure
the trailer will have some kind of slick on it he discribe it to me but im not sure what it is

Maybe you could get the chassis from BTF or someone and then just finish them up.They mightcut you a deal since you would not need near as much tubing as a normal buggy they build and you would be getting 5 of them.If not also check out www.wickedcustoms.com and email Ryan about taking care of you.He seem's to have great prices on chassis and you could even tell him you want hrew instead of dom to save some money.Hrew is about $3 a foot less than dom.

tomorrow when everyone is open i will shop around
he was aloting 10k for each jeep so i would have to build each buggy for that minus axles tire and wheels, and suspension

looks like this is going to be a major learning experince for me and the shop
i am excited and ready to get to work

Does he actualy want these to float or is he just hoping for something that won't sink into bad bogs.

For high floatation on soft ground these and these are great.

This is actually amphibious.

Jeeps and duck hunting just don't go together, there is no place to put a wet dog.

You could always try putting a TJ body on a Bombi drivetrain. It would be differant anyway.

Here are some pics of my buddy Erics Jeep that runs 42"x24-17 Terras. He runs a D60 front/ 14 bolt rear 4.56 R&P Detroit F&R, TBI 350, D300 matted to a NP203 w/ Hydraulic assist steering. It does very well and is a stout set up.

It would ALOT cheaper and easyer to get older YJ or CJs and replace all the drive train with chevy stuff, rockys and have more power and less cost ... just do 305's and autos so they dont blow up to much stuff.
